As I have talked to numerous business owners I have come to see there is some fear when it comes to hiring a virtual assistant. It reminds me about a time in my life that I had to hand over my sweet baby boy to a wonderful daycare provider so I could go to work to help pay the bills. It felt as though my heart would fall out of my body as that sweet baby would be with someone else for part of the day. I think this is how we think about our businesses sometimes and at the end of the day that little boy was still mine and she did a great job. Now dropping him off at college one day…well that is a story for a different blog post 😊.
It’s understandable to feel scared when hiring a virtual assistant, especially if it’s your first time doing so. You may have concerns about whether the virtual assistant will be able to meet your expectations, handle your sensitive information, or communicate effectively with you.
Here are some tips that can help you overcome your fear and hire a virtual assistant with confidence:
- Identify your needs: Before hiring a virtual assistant, take the time to identify your needs and what tasks you want them to handle. This will help you communicate your expectations clearly and ensure that you hire the right person for the job.
- Have a one on one conversation with a potential hire: Take the time to interview potential virtual assistants thoroughly. Ask about their experience, skills, and communication style. This will help you get a sense of their personality and whether they are a good fit for you.
- Start with a small project: If you’re still unsure, start with a small project or trial period to see how the virtual assistant performs. This will give you a chance to assess their work and communication style before committing to a long-term arrangement.
- Establish clear communication: Establish clear lines of communication with your virtual assistant and set expectations for how often you will check in and what channels you will use to communicate. This will help you feel more in control of the relationship.
Remember, hiring a virtual assistant can be a great way to free up your time and focus on more important tasks.
